Dictionary.com defines risk as, “exposure to the chance of injury or loss; a hazard or dangerous chance”. Managing Supply Chain Risk is no longer an initiative or a program - It is a way of life. A good organization will generally have a few established supply chains, today’s world-class organization will have competing supply chains serving various customers and markets internally and externally.

In today’s environment, management teams are often confronted by a series of encounters on a daily basis. From ongoing challenges such as overcoming operating difficulties, working with shifting financial markets and currency fluctuations, and complying with changes in government regulations, to reacting to unexpected upheavals and natural disasters anywhere and everywhere in the world. Therefore, given today’s dynamic and often volatile business framework, certain questions should be asked: “How prepared are you and your management?”; “Have you identified, and prepared a plan to mitigate your risk?”; “Do you know how to measure ‘Value at Risk’?”; and “What is your tolerance for risk – What are your risk thresholds?”

During his presentation our speaker, Sunil Kulkarni, will put these questions, and other concerns, into the context of overall Supply Chain Risk Management while discussing the similarities and differences between Supply Chain Risk management and traditional financial management approaches.
